The Resting Place, Rosedale

Name of the Paddle: The Resting Place Rosedale

Display Location: Curious Bear Marketplace

Artist Name: JAN aka Julia Noakes

Medium: Acrylic paint and varnish

Artist Bio:  I currently live on a ranch near Bethany Ontario. I lived most of my life in and around the Trent-Severn Waterway. I am currently disabled and spend many a day painting especially during current times. My favorite medium to use is acrylic paint although I have used watercolors and am thinking of trying my hand at oil.  I love to do scenes, especially northern scenes.

Paddle Description: I was honored to do the paddle for Rosedale as the tiny town intrigued me and I wanted to learn about this town and why it was a Trent-Severn Trail town.

My inspiration for this paddle was the fact that Rosedale centuries ago was the base summer camp for the indigenous people and presently has its largest population in the summer with cottagers and boaters. Many regular users of the Trent Severn Waterways make a point of doing a stop over at Rosedale lock for the quiet natural setting.  To give the feel of the town I decided to create a night time scene. I painted the otentik with its fire pit and then added the moored boat along with many night time creatures throughout the painting.
