Paddle Name: Swimming Fish
Display Location: Fenelon Falls & District Chamber of Commerce
Artist Name: Donna Bisschop
Medium: Acrylic paint
Artist Bio: Originally from New Jersey, Donna Bisschop has made Ontario her home for nearly fifty years, drawing much of her inspiration from her heritage, knot-work, nature and a deep connection to All Our Relations. Acrylic paint is always a “go-to” to express her relationship with the world.
A fine artist for many years, Donna made a significant switch to include leather over a decade ago to pursue wearable, functional, and fun art. Her leather works include bags, boxes, jewellery, 3D sculpture, clothing, wall-hangings, journal covers, masks and more.
The hides she uses for “soft” projects are mainly elk, deer or moose. Hard leather projects are achieved with tooling leather…These are dyed, burned and moulded, often beaded with glass or wooden beads. All pieces are hand-stitched with sinew.
Murals and design work for stain glass have been the focus for the past few years, as Donna’s community influence expands.
As well as producing art, Donna teaches, does art therapy and is a Visual Facilitator, taking her graphic art, illustration and public speaking skills to businesses, schools and workshops.
