Artist Bio: I share my art out of my teaching Studio, a hop, skip and jump north of Lakefield. I paint and teach in a folk art style. My paddle was perfect timing for me because only this Spring I began designing /painting the Lock at Lakefield as well as other area lift locks. I am fascinated with Google earth and drone photographs. Check out what’s happening at the Studio on Facebook, at The Messy Artiste 👩🏻🎨
Paddle Description: There is so much history to the construction of the Trent-Severn Waterway lock system and trails. My paddle depicts the island and canal after the boats pass through Lock 26 at Lakefield. I’ve painted the year 2021. The Lock’s Canadian Flag flies at half-mast. There is a flag on one of the boats to note this moment in time that is coming to light, marking a tragic occurrence in our history. I also felt it was important to include the red roof building on the island. It houses an organization that helps youth in our community. I was raised in the area. My Mom was an old Lakefield gal. She told me many stories about growing up in Lakefield. On the back of my paddle, I note facts I find interesting about the building of the Waterway
