Name of the Paddle: Lily Dip’n

Display Location: Cheslers Shoes

Artist Name: Rhonda Laursen

Medium: Oil

Artist Bio: Rhonda’s experience comes from a journey of self-directed experimentation and a quest for technical and expressive excellence by learning from other professional artists. Rhonda’s inspiration comes from the out of doors. She is a resident of Kawartha Lakes on the Trent-Severn where she built an art studio on her waterfront property and can look out the window of the studio and enjoy the beauty and get inspiration from the lake view in many conditions with a wide variety of water fowl at her back door. A kayak lays ready for a gentle paddle into natures art.
She was born in Campbelton New Brunswick. Her love of art and inspiration comes from many years spent living in Germany and traveling Europe in her twenties as well as the connection she felt spending much time in the heart of Algonquin Park. Her many adventures paddling, 4×4 excursions and portaging the back woods inspired her love of nature which is evident in her compositions to date.
Her unique style draws on her love of nature and close observation in all the beautiful details from light hitting the trees to the shadows in the snow on a bright winter’s day.
Her main medium is oil on panel but continues to challenge herself in wide variety of mixed mediums. Art comes in many forms and she continues to be open to new adventures in the arts in many forms.

Paddle Description: Rhonda wanted the paddle to let the viewer imagine being down a small creek with the only sound is the life in the marsh and the soft sound of the water droplets rolling off your paddle into the water. This is a location she paddles very often. Sometimes to sit and paint and other times to just float and take in all the beauty of Ken Reid Park.

“I always take numerous photos of this area. In my studio I go through, pic a photo and utilize photo shop for the final composition. I rough sketch in the composition on the paddle and then finally approach to paint.”

If you’re on the waters near Ken Reid and you see a lady and her dog kayaking and or painting make sure to wave and say hello!
